Hi guys,

Got myself signed up and been reading loads over the past few weeks - cracking site!
I'm due to pickup my 57 plate ST3 (with around 18k on it) in the next week or two, but wondered if anyone has extended their Ford warranty beyond the 3 years? I've read all about the alternator problems people are having and I'm thinking I may discuss with the dealer about having an extended warranty as I don't fancy buying the car only to have the alternator packup as the balance of the warranty runs out this year!

Anyone any idea of the cost of extending the warranty and what I should be asking for? If I pay for an extended warranty now, would it be for 12 months from the end of my warranty or from the date I purchase the car?

Thanks guys!

Matt.

P.S. Based in Oxfordshire nr Witney so hopefully may see some of you around - already seen a few STs driving near the airport where I work - albeit cause the 'motor park' is across the road I imagine!

I bought my 06 ST in November and that has an extended warranty on it for a year, expires 07/10. Think it's Ford Protect Gold and covers most mechanical and electrical faults bar 'normal wear and tear'. Will have a look into it for you but I'm pretty sure it starts from when the standard warranty expires.

Sorry can't be of more help!

Thanks chap - I'm trying to get hold of the answer from the garage but the phone is seemingly engaged all the time! Just think it may be worth paying a bit extra to have the warranty extended - especially since the car is low mileage and 3 years old this year.

Mine aslready came with the extended warranty from the previous owner, would say it is worth it though!

Was busy yesterday, but will look tonight at the terms and conditions and post up on it for you if I can find anything!

I picked up my 06 St last week and the dealer throw in a years ford gold warranty and reading through it it covers alot of things and is well worth the extra layout, i also increased it by another year just because it worked out cheaper.

Ford protect, Dealer RRP.

12 Months £449
24 Months £649
36 Months £849

Prices quoted are for 'special vehciles', ST, 4x4 etc.

Prices quoted include AA cover (incl Homestart), and can be removed at a discount of £5 per month.

Just extended mine today. £399 for 12 months Ford Protect Gold Cover. By the way, you can also take the car to non Ford garages for warranty repairs as long as they are VAT registered

Yep, although you could opt to take it to an ST specialist who uses genuine parts. If I had a Specialist Performance Ford centre near me, I know where I would go

Awesome - thanks guys - I'll let you know how I get on in my endeavours, though I imagine I'll be posting pics up of the car rather than it's extended warranty when I get it!!

One question I did have - since I've narrowed my choice of STs I'm looking at, and taking my time rather than jumping and buying the first one I see, I was wondering if I can extend a warranty if I'm not buying from a Ford dealership? Can I just go to a Ford garage and buy an extended warranty?

I've seen a couple of nice STs, both with fsh which are in superb condition - but the one I'm leaning towards is from a Chrysler dealer where someone has obviously part-ex'd their vehicle.

**EDIT**

The car I'm looking at is an 07 plate with 17k on the clock. Now it has had 2 services at main Ford dealers at 7,587 and 15,028 - the dealer has said they will be putting it through its first MOT before I pick it up if I did go ahead and buy it. Would this car be invalid on warranty due to the service intervals? I'm pretty sure it should have had its 3rd year major service, but then again, the mileage is low.

Just wondering if this would affect extending a warranty agreement.

I would imagine the service @ 7k would be a 1st year service and 15k will be the 2nd year service (ie it hasnt done enough miles so has been serviced every 12 months). This will mean its due another service at 3 years !

You could always just buy mine, its in the 'For Sale' section and meets all your requirements
