It depends what you want, all are quiet in car but outside some can be mega loud, piper and miltek motorsport. I heard one of these miltek motorsport black and it was loooooouuuud and very characterful, much louder than piper so I'd expect your neighbours and the police wont like you. The chap said it was quiet in car though. These 2 are the only mega loud exhausts and piper is fine if you only have cat-back but if you de-cat it its looooouuud!
Your neighbours will hate you but it will sound good. Miltek normal exhausts are tame but expensive!
De-cats give a lovely characterful sound but you won't be insured with it and won't pass an MOT.
I have Janspeed cat-back with mongoose downpipe and sportscat as Janspeed's sportscat was bringing the light up so got the rest mongoose. Janspeeds cat-back sounds nice with the mongoose combo and looks very nice too. It similar to mongoose in sound level though. Magnex sounds same as mongoose does in character and level. Mongoose is tame when chilling but very nice when you gun it. With sports cat and downpipe they sound great!! And they have been making exhausts longer than most or all and their pricing is very appealing!! You also have the option of sportscats either 100cell or 200 cell. I have 200cell and it made a big difference to my car in sound and performance over just cat-back.

Another one to throw in is dreamscience as their exhausts are designed with powerflow(I think) and it has a Y-style back box which is better than a single large box at the back because it flows better, lighter, better performance and although I haven't heard one it is supposed to be very nice and characterful of the 5-pot growl.

If I was to do it again I'd try one of these babies or mongoose as its a bargain.
The miltek motorsport black would be top of my list but my neighbours would hate me. Its all down to what you want, I'd definately go for full system or just downpipe and sportscat for performance. If you like it loud go miltek motorsport black or piper as these are well made!! In-car will be still quiet. But if you want it to be tame when chilling with a nice burble and loud only when you open it up go for the others.
There is other makes out there but these guys are more popular and offer superb quality.
By the way all will be kind of loud for 1 minute on start-up but then go quiter. In-car all are kind of quiet because ford must have done alot of sound proofing. Cat-backs won't make to much difference to sound and performance(piper will though but it wont be mega loud) but if you get sportscat all will will pop and bang if you want them to on revving and when gunning it sometimes. With de-cat it will bang and double bang all day even when you don't want it too!

Ive got miltek down pipe and 200 cell sports cat with the oe catback and it makes the car a little better sounding without upsetting any one.
Allthough ive just ordered a blue flame cat back as its got the Y shape rear to get rid of the back box showing at the back

They don't make much difference to performance but they definately make a difference to sound. I had a Mongoose cat-back for 6 months on standard cat and downpipe and it was only a little bit quieter than when I added the sports cat and 3" downpipe.

I found the Janspeed very quiet compared to Mongoose which is why I didnt get it. Don;t get me wrong they sound nice but they aren't that much louder than standard.
