QUOTE(jaketipler86 @ 20 Nov 2009, 09:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>As the title says, is it worth it? Just that im looking to get an exhaust soon and wondering if its worth doing?
Thanks
Its not worth wrapping the exhaust but is definitely worth wrapping the manifold/turbo/downpipe! Im not sure anyone has bothered doing this yet though!
Haha thats what i meant the downpipe etc... my mate did look at me funny when i said about wrapping the exhaust. He thought i meant the whole system lol! Thanks for the advice, will probably buy some when i order my system.
Best not to wrap the flexy section of the downpipe as in my experience it leads to a break up of the inner part. It appears that some air flow through the outer wire wound part aids keeping the heat down inside.....
QUOTE(STu77 @ 22 Nov 2009, 11:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>excuse the possble dumb question, but what benefit would you get from wrapping the downpipe?
Apart from the obvious one of keeping the engine bay a little cooler its mostly to do with gas flow! Hot gases travel faster than cool ones so keeping the heat in the gas rather than letting it leak out through the downpipe results in the exhaust getting shot of the gases faster! In the manifold and turbo body this also increases the speed at which the gases hit the turbo thus spinning the turbo a bit faster!
thanks mate, sounds like another job to add to the list then.
