Is the performance affected in terms of boost being held back etc, do you get any strange ABS activation, difficulties getting into 5th / 6th gear?

The car does not actually have a central vehicle speed sensor on the gearbox, the vehicle speed is calculated from the ABS sensors. This code can can sometimes be caused by damage to a wheel bearing which supplies the signal to the ABS sensor. It may also be an ABS sensor itself failed, or wiring damage.

5th and 6th are locked out. I know the ABS sensors calculate speed im just wondering what the A stands for in the fault code. I was hoping it meant a specific hub! Have read someone its the o/s/r? Was just hoping someone could elaborate! Will drop Andy from A & K motorsport a message time see if he has any information.

A garage with ford software should be able to find which sensor it is, I had same issue on my fiesta, threw up a generic speed sensor code but with ford software he could tell which hub was at fault.

Just an update for everyone. My issue turned out to be the O/S/F wheel sensor. Would definitely recommend getting the code checked with ford diagnostics as I found out exactly what wheel sensor it was when I did, so saved lots of time! Not the easiest of jobs either as the sensors are stuck in tight and I mean tight! Had to smash the old one out!

The sensor has a torx screw holding it in Danny. It has a plastic body so should just pull out.
Easily removed the torx bolt Rob but even after plenty of penetrating spray the sensor was stuck solid.

As you can see, no way this was just pulling out! It has been in there for 14 years so cant really complain! Ha.
