Hi,
I've just bought a second hand pair of Escort Mk4 bonnet vents off eBay, and have also bought another bonnet to fit them onto as I want to keep my existing bonnet. I notice recently that on the Profile Auto site there is a photo of a silver ST with the same bonnet vents on it. Does anyone know who the owner is and how I can get in touch with him to ask how / where he got them fitted?

Thanks

those are the one that sit flush inside the bonnet rather than on top of it like the new RS ones, i think its rather involved getting them right but they do look nice, dont know whose that silver car is but john-st3 has the old skool vents on his so he may be able to tell you more {in fact he will be able to tell you }

thats the fella

i have sierra cosworth vents grafted into my bonnet as paul said. its not an easy process and unless you are very competent with a mig welder this isnt a diy mod.
you really need a bonnet from the escort with the vent holes in to remove the hole and graft that into your bonnet.trying to make the flanges would be a total nightmare

but best of luck with your plans

Just a little update...

The "project" is now underway and is being done by these bad boys: http://www.oldschoolengineering.co.uk/
These guys are only 10 minutes up the road from me (I'm in South Wales), and after visiting their workshop and seeing for myself the work they are currently doing on classic Jag's, Escort RS MK2 / MK1's, and various other rally and track cars, I can honestly say that there is nothing that these guy's can't do.

Old School Engineering came highly recommended by a friend who has had lots of work done by them on his two classic cars, then I saw their stand at the Castle Combe Rally Day last year.

I was there yesterday to have a quick look at how it was coming along, and I must say I'm really surprised to see how much effort these guys have put in to getting the bonnet and vents to (as they said) "suit the shape of the bonnet and look right". The way they have folded the metal down around the aperture and fabricated the retaining brackets (without any welding at all) looks fantastic. A very professional job

They are priming the bonnet and vents today, and it should be finally painted sometime over the weekend. I'll be collecting it early next week, and will post up some more photo's then, but until then, here's a few of the "work in progress" photo's:

Looking good mate !! ..
Hi RIK,
I got the idea from you mate
I sent you a few pm's earlier this week. Did you buy your car with the vents already fitted, or did you get them done yourself?

Cheers!

Hi RIK,
I definitely sent you two pm's, one on the 13th and one the following day. Funny thing is that I now have no evidence of them in my Messenger folders??? I'm guessing that there must have been something wrong with the server those days. Anyway, not to worry.

Do you have any problems with the water coming through the vents and effecting anything under the bonnet? Anything I should be aware of?

Can't wait to get mine finished now. Should all be done by Monday or Tuesday.

Well the beast's cosmetic surgery is now complete
Had the new bonnet with the old school vents (excuse the pun) fitted this morning, and I must say that I'm well happy. Byron and his boys at Old School Engineering did an excellent job.

Here's the photo's of the finished product:

The work was carried out on a spare bonnet I got for free, so I get to keep the original bonnet too
... Win, Win... Result!

Now for my next job... Wolf rear mid spoiler on it's way
