Hello

I know dump valves are frowned upon by some people on here lol but was wondering if anyone with mountune 260 has fitted one and was basically wondering if car still runs just as good with one on. Reason i ask as some people have said to me in past that the mountune remap don't like induction kits or anything that's been fitted after the remap has been put on.

cheers for you time people

I'd put it this way.

If you ever had to take your car back to Mountune HQ with a DV (especially an atmospheric one) fitted then you could fully expect to be shown the door .....

You answered the question yourself in your OP .... anything you fit in the induction side of the engine after a Mountune map has been written to the ECU can lead to unpredictable behaviour. Their maps are based on exactly the set of hardware mods they were written for. Nothing more and nothing less.

If you don't like this approach/theory then you should go to another tuner.

Its not that they are frowned on! We would love to have one if they sounded any good and didnt mess up the fuelling! The problem is that on a car with a MAF based fuelling system the air thats in the system has already been measured so the car will add the right amount of fuel for that air! If you then let most of it out, by for instance changing gear or backing off for a corner, when you press the throttle again the car runs very rich for an instant! Its not a devastating loss of performance but its still a loss and a lot of people have also had running issues caused by DVs sticking and allowing boost leaks! The ST already has a recirculating DV anyway which keeps the air in the system and also helps keep the turbo spinning by re-routing the air back into the compressor!

I run a DV with no problems it's nothing to do with the map really as said above by fishy it's all to do with the MAF and the air fuel mix, fitting a dump valve will cause a slight rich mix and you may get some additional pops and bangs the loss in power is minute and it all depends what your looking for I love te sound of my forge recirc and forge atmospheric as I'm a chav at heart lol and Iv had no running issues other than when the DV pipe split
.

It's all up to you and what you want fella

Im going to suggest that they didn't see the dv.

Pretty sure that MT would refuse to do the work if you had a induction kit let alone a DV.

Edit: and this certainly isnt what i expected this thread to be about

Wise decision dude

Even if a D/V gave you no problems you would soon get sick of it and take it off.
If you want to upgrade the standard recirc then fit a new Mountune jobbie. http://www.mountunestore.com/Product/Uprated-re-circulating-valve
There are others available from Forge, autospecialists and Elevate.
Might give you a bit more go if your standard one is weak and bleeding boost

Customer: I had MR290 fitted but the car is showing error lights.
Mountune: Let me have a look. Oh, what's that? A DV?
Customer: Yeh, I fitted it after having MR290 fitted.
Mountune: Oh right, well that voids your warranty I'm afraid.

Why pay over the odds for Mountune so it keeps your warranty, and then wack a £70 DV on it to void it all?!

They'll be happy to take your money for an upgrade to MR290, but I doubt they'd be as happy to cover a warranty claim!

Er Andy...........
MR290 doesn't keep the warranty only MP260

There has been cases though where they refused to fit MR290 to cars with induction kits and different inlet manifolds

Sorry, probably a bad example.
OK, replace MR290 with MP260.

Seeing as that's what the OP has.

Suggest all you want

But they noticed that dump valve pipe was rubbing against another part and fix it with a cable tie and they even mentioned it on the paperwork for the upgrade

You obviously haven't rang them if you think that, when I rang them about upgrading my car from a 260 to a 290 I asked if it was ok that my car had an induction kit and a decat on, to which I was told if the car wasn't to their exact spec they wouldn't do it, so I put it back to standard air box etc and that's how it's stayed since the upgrade.

And it's been faultless so far which will do me nicely.

why do i need to ring them?? wtf
Did I say you need to ring them?

By your post you implied that they wouldn't turn a customer away regardless of what mod they're done to their car, just for sake of taking their money, I was merely pointing out from personal experience that that isn't the case, :)

If the op wants to fit a dump valve after the conversion then that's his choice, its his car at the end of the day, bit I'd be doubtful if Mountune would do the conversion to a standard car with one already fitted, but like I say, I'm just talking from my own experience.
