Drilled Ggr Cais For More Induction Roar???

294 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Boovy
Has anybody drilled holes in the front of their GGR CAIS so you can hear the induction roar from the K&N?

Or will it make my car run poorly?

I'm really after the induction roar but I don't want to spend any money really and don't really like the idea of an open cais sucking up water. I'm tempted to just drill a few holes in the front of the GGR CAIS so it hopefully gets some cold air in and lets out that induction roar.

When you touch the CAIS after a drive it feels hot anyway so most of the air getting in must be kind of hot even with the cold air feed.

Help me decide guys. I'm thinking do it do it.

You won't suck up water with an open filter unless you are a total mong and decide to drive through a river. People have hydrolocked their engines with standard induction.
I dont know because it is situated right next to the engine it might suck in more warm air than cold

Indeed. I have burnt my hands twice changing from standard to K&N Gen II and then to DSCi.

I really must let the car cool down before embarking on such escapades

have to agree, sucking in hot air from the rad too

Suppose drilling the holes on the top side of the canister would reduce the heat getting in there but maybe more likely to get water into it?

I'd be looking at ways of insulating it from engine heat if you're going to chop the housing up or ditch it altogether if a more open enclosure of the filter is possible?

Been running open filters of the K&N type for couple of years now with no water ingress problems

Yeh I forgot about that, might have to be daring and go for a dreamscience cais.

The reason I'm asking about modifying it is because I really want that induction roar and also my GGR has broke on the cold feed piece where they break. I've spoke to GGR about it and they said its been redesigned and the part is £50+vat and postage which I was hoping I'd get for free as I've still got to fit it or pay for fitting
