Great result! I would imagine the grommet comes pre-fitted to the mirror assembly, which probably makes it unlikely to find separately. Could you live with a bit of "black and nasty" long term, or perhaps cut a bit of black foam to fill the hole?

I have a ford dealership located just up the road. I know them pretty well and was thinking of popping up to see them in the week. They might be able to help me out.

For now I'm just happy to have found the source of the problem. I'm sure a solution can be found.

Well I visited my local Ford Dealership today.

To start with they confirmed my suspicions, the drivers side mirror is indeed aftermarket.

After speaking to the parts department they have sourced me a genuine Ford unit at a very reasonable price and will fit it for me on Wednesday.
