Does it sound like a whistling noise because if so it'll just be the noise the turbo makes when its spooling?

Facing the engine from front. It's on the lower left hand side, it's a black unit with a pipe that runs over the top of the engine. It has a tendency to rattle.

With a turbo car, especially standard, the intercooler is rubbish and doesn't do much. It runs very lean. When you boot it, the hot air and low octane allows it to pre-ignite very easily. Sounds like 5 little elves under your bonnet, gently tapping bottle tops with teaspoons.

Use good fuel, your head is probably coked up now. It will take a lot of miles to clear it out. Long highway runs help with this if you have a trip to do.

the car has a slight well almost seams like a uneven idle but the revs are all good on dash and drives fine ( not miss fire not that bad ) and on idle blipping the revs the noise it not there ?? i assumed the lumpy was maybe because its a 5 cylinder don't know some citroens i work on had this and that is a 4 cylinder ?? but no fault codes and this could be me but worth saying in case it was involved ???

Some idle smoother than others, but the T5 is a tad lumpy. For instance, my old 2007 idles better than a mates 2010 with low mileage. His rocks more too. I suspect he has a less than best upper gearbox mount, or a tired dual mass flywheel. I've done all my mounts, beefed up.

Poor fuel will clag up you injectors too. They varnish up. It could make it idle worse.

You haven't mentioned year model and mileage yet?

Do you have ethanol fuel in the UK?

I regularly put e10 in my car to keep the fuel system cleaner. We have some fuel stations with 100RON e10. It can block injectors on a badly varnished car though. The ethanol tends to dislodge varnish and deposits rather than just dissolving. I've done it since new, never had fuel issues.

If it really is the issue, your dealer should be able to do an injector clean.

its an st225 on 07 plate and done 53,000 could it be worth putting some of that fuel cleaner in it as well ?? and what did you upgraded on yours to tighten it up ?? what do you think would i need to do to help the car a bit better ?? thanks for you help on this !!

i didn't get it from a dealer but it has 12 month warranty which can be done at any VAT reg garage ??

also the highest RON i think in England is 99

With the latter in mind. Take it too a specialist.

mine had quite a lumpy idle when my spark plugs were knackered, i'd give them a check. as rob said its not the smoothest idling engine with good plugs in either

might be worth pulling the symposer pipe off and going for a spin, that would eliminate that suspect noise

I avoid most fuel additives as it can cause problems for some turbo components, but ethanol works a treat.

If you can't buy e10 fuel there, you can make your own by adding a 4lt bottle of methylated spirits to your tank, then fill up with premium fuel. It will have really high RON too.
The ethanol burns faster and hotter than regular petrol, so takes out contaminants from the engine better.

Makes great drag racing fuel too, if you have RS injectors
