Hi people,

Just to give everyone an idea of my progress on the mammoth task I decided to undertake.....

I thought to myself, DEACT, it can't be that difficult to fit, I WAS WRONG lol!.

After getting all the parts through eBay and various scrap yards, I decided to fit it all.

The end result is that I now have single zone climate control, as to make it dual zone would have inlvolved taking the dash out, not an easy job.

I still have some work to do on it, resetting the positions of the actuators etc. If anyone is thinking of doing this, DON'T BOTHER!! Sell your car and buy one with it in.

If anyone wants details on whats involved, i am happy to write this down, but it will take a bit of time.

I am retrofitting the sat nav at the weekend, so more fun and games.

It proves that it can be done, but at what price...

If you already have DEACT, retrofitting the sat nav shouldn't be a problem. The wiring loom I got hold of already had all the connectors tapped up. So you would just need to located them and plug it in. Also you may require some programming at Ford, but I've yet to confirm this.

Just thought I would share this information.

Depends.....

If you already have the dual zone climate control, then I think yes. The loom I got hold of came from a car the had cliamate control and the sat nav connectors were already there. I think all that is then needed is the GPS reciever.

If you have manual a/c then take my word for it, don't bother!!

There was also a retro-fittable (non-Ford) item available in Europe for the Mk 2 Focus. It looked more or less the same as the original Ford unit. Although it came complete with all of the bits required including instructions etc. it may be as much of a

to fit as your Ford system seems to be!

UPDATE:

Just to give people an update...

I have manged to "lash" a GPS aerial as a temporary measure just to get me up and running. If anyone is interested you need the HRS GT5 GPS connector to plug into the DVD Nav unit.

I was trying to do things on the cheap as the original parts for the GPS aerial are quite expensive (thanks Tony):

Base: 1487856 - ÂŁ39.19
Mast: 1380078 - ÂŁ26.51
Lead: 1430590 - ÂŁ98.86

Unfortunately I keep experiencing loss of GPS signal (**** aerial and location), so am only using the speed pulse.

I have now brought the base and the mast and am trying to make my own cable up as ÂŁ98.86 is a tad high!

Also my system was updated last night to the lasted software (thanks smjohns) and seems to be running so much better. The general response of this system seems to be improved.

I am so glad I have gone down this route as the touch screen unit is a great feature. It looks the parts and functions really well. I just need to save my pennies and get the bluetooth/voice control module next.

Anyway, just thought I would update if anyone's interested.....

Dude, did you not read what he wrote? It's so much hassle (and doesn't work properly, being single zone only) that it's easier to sell your car and buy one with it already installed. Also try explaining to a prospective buyer why the car has dual-zone climate but it doesn't work properly....
