Cooling Fan Behaviour..

Hi all, I have a ST225 Facelift, and you’re all probably sick of me posting on this forum by now but just wanted to check something was correct as I’ve never had it with any car I’ve owned before.
So if on a warm day like we’ve had for the past week and I get caught in traffic the coolant temperature obviously rises and gets to about 100 degrees C, the fan then comes on the 1st speed setting so not really audible… however once I start driving again the car seems to cool back down a bit back to 90 which is obviously normal running temperature.
But then Once I park up on my drive I’ve noticed that the fan is still on.. not sure if this is just a normal thing or not as I was assuming once the cars cooled down the fan should turn off? Could higher Intake temps cause the fan to run on? It just seems as though it’s telling the fan to come on but not turn off when it’s back down to normal operating temperature… 😂 any help or advice appreciated. Sorry for yet another post 🤦🏻‍♂️

My rad fan sometimes stays on after shutdown when it is hot.

It shuts down when the temp drops. Don't forget after switch off the heat soak raises the under bonnet temp.
The fan can come on after shutdown but it happens rarely.
Odd thing is that it isn't always after a bit of spirited driving.
Just one of the quirks of the car.
I don’t mean after shut down… it’s hard to explain but here’s an example..

So I left work,

half way through my commute I got caught in traffic,

The coolant temperature rose to 100 degrees C

The coolant temp then quickly dropped to 87 degrees C (fan came on low speed setting)

carried on the rest of my commute without any traffic

got home, opened the bonnet with the engine running (checked my new crossover pipe was all good as I’d just fitted it)

coolant temperature was at 90 degrees but noticed that my fan was still running on the low speed

I’ve just come back from IoW a mixture of cars in our group MK2’s, MK3’s, MK7 Fiestas and MK3 RS’s and lots of spirited driving sometimes when we stop for a few photos cars are left idling and you can hear a lot of cooling fans running but not all next stop some who weren’t running last stop are now. Then we get back to caravan park and switch off a few continue to run. As said before my RS has the fan on all the time as it’s mapped in by Pumaspeed but never continues to run after I switch it off.

I wouldn’t get too paranoid over it tbh.

starting to sound like it’s a ford thing… haha. I was just worried as I wasn’t sure if it was okay for the fan to be running when driving or anything, didn’t want it to be a problem that causes more problems if that makes sense haha

(fan came on low speed setting)

my fan was still running on the low speed
My fan only goes on or off. Do the facelift models have a variable speed fan?
I'm sure my 2006 has 2 speed settings...

That said the only time I usually noticed the fan coming on was after turning her off, typically on warm days after crawling through a car park

The fan runs on slow speed when the aircon is on.

They all have a two speed fan but you may have not have seen it transition from high to low speed as it's not a regular thing.

Sometimes my fan comes on when I've been in heavy traffic or idling for a while.

It stays on for a few minutes after shutdown and then I hear it drop to the lower speed.

It is pretty rare and was a bit worrying at first, but after many years I know its perfectly normal & nothing to be concerned about.

Plus I had an Renault 11 Turbo back in the day and its cooling fan came on after every single journey !
