Hi I have an 06 plate st 3 with a coolant leak at back of engine.its in garage hust now and wondering what it could be

Hi and welcome.

First i would have a look on where exactly its coming from, at the back of the engine could be anything.

Get a torch and have a peek under the car while its jacked up and on supports or if you can, look from the top of the engine and look down the back, there are coolant/water pipe at the top which are likely your problem.

I've had it jacked up and looked with a torch also looked down the way to.
When I had it jacked it was dripping down the intercooler pipe but can't see where leek is coming from

Yes the coolant pipes are original. The leek is dripping down the inlet intercooler pipe at vack but can't see where leak is

As mentioned above, the heater hoses are the most likely culprit.
You may only see the leak when it's under pressure.

Have you checked the two hoses that run at the top of your radiator, they go to the water/coolant tank on the drivers side, these can get pinched.
