I have just been refused insurance with Chris Knott because of the remap, (Chris Knott, I thought you specialised in modded cars??)

Age 25,
5 yrs no claims,
No convictions / no points
ref 894 - FocusSTOC quoted

I'm very disappointed, everyone else that I've tried has no problems.

VERY poor service and my cash will be going elsewhere. Don't believe the hype folks!

All the quotes from the site sponsors came back at about £900 for me. Elephant quoted £600 so I stayed with them, will give them another chance to redeem themselves when I'm 25 in a few months

You'll probably find they don't insure car's in your post code area! I seem to recall a thread they stared about it

No, they definately do! ST3 (thats the postcode not the car!)Finally sorted now anyway, Greenlight offered £522... but the winner is Adrian Flux with a really pleasing £485 (and that covers all mods like for like, protected NCB, and added the Mrs on there too!)

I insured through Chris Knott and paid £430

07 St2
Mountuned
Cat Back
1 x sp30
Nil claims
250 xs
RG12 postcode
32 years young

I thought this was a really good deal as Directline wanted to put my xs up to £700 with the mountune conversion and seemed generally awkward about it, not really there fault I suppose as its not their cup of tea.

I had really good service from them, underwritten by Highway/LV.

It's a strange world is insurance (and I work in it, abeit Commercial Construction side) but there is always someone saying what a great deal they got until you call the same company and don't get anywhere.

Cheers

Rob

Bit of a pointless rant Dave.
Sponsor or not they will be right for some people and not for others, just like every other insurance company really.
You lose nothing by seeking a quote.

Pointless or not the facts are the facts. They post on here stating the rules, you meet them ALL (and more) no negative points IE bans/crashes/claims. & then they dont even quote!

No two people living in the same road with the same car would get the same quote, there's to many factors involved, which are not just mod's or age etc !

You have ofcourse got the option to shop around, i do every year as quotes do change due to the added ae and mileage to your car etc !

I've saved just over £1000 from my Direct Line renewal so I'm really pleased.

I think Dave's annoyance was based on the fact that he seemingly met ALL their criteria, and it would appear it was the remap that was the dealbreaker.

i.e. the remap meant they refused to quote.

Not that the quote was uncompetitive.

If that WAS the case (i.e. the remap was the problem), then I can understand his grievance with a forum sponsor refusing to quote based on a remap alone.

100% correct!

Sorry but this all seems a load of rubbish.

No one has a right to any insurance, and just because they are a club sponsor this does not change the fact.

As previously stated insurance is a strange animal, almost a black art and while they may give indecations of what they insurer will accept on the scheme there ar eno guarantees.

I still have some companies who will not quote for our lasses ST3, she is 36 full ncd, no claims reasonable area etc. and the car is relatively standard so I am amazed no one else has refused to quote for you.

I appreciate you are disapointed but at the end of the day you have got cover from elsewhere so where is the problem?

As I have posted several times, I have had insurance with Chris knott numerous times over the years but not every year as occasionaly they have not been the cheapest etc, (kast year the ST was with Sky) you situation is liekly to be the same this year the under writers woudl not accept the risk, give them another go next year.

To put your findings in context, every year I waste 15 minutes calling adrian flux and they are always miles away on quotes for me.

Insurance companys are a mystery, I was refused a renewel quote from the co op once on my wifes car with max no claims, both clean licenses good area.

Then I got cold called by them and they quoted us £ 100 cheeper than anyone?

I explained that we were refused a renewel and they checked my policy and found no reason for this?

Anyway we went elswhere, not a great company.

Whoa!!! I've only posted facts and truth!

Rubbish you say?? I ask who made the call to Chris Knott, thats right me not you, so how can you say that my comments are rubbish??

Yes I have now got insurance from elsewhere but my frustration comes from a post from Chris Knott on this site giving qualification criteria (which I met ALL (not one or two but ALL)). Then they ask everyone who meets this to get your quotes THEN call them and they will beat it. They specifically say ring them last of all!

Also the issue of refusing to quote because of the remap (never heard that before on here, intercoolers yes but a remap???)

appologies, I did not mean you were talking rubbish, I believe the facts as you stated them but what I meant was rubbish (which to be fare was probably not the best term) was the way you came across, as if chris knott had made you an offer and now they were renaging upon the offer.

Insurance does not work like that, it chages on an hourly basis at the insurer so just because in theory you met the requirments the underwriter still does not have to give you cover, a bit like going to a night club meet their dress rulesetc but they still wont let you in but then they let the 16 year old girl in, it does not seem fare and I understand your frustration but it is the underwriters right to refuse cover.

It realy frustrastes me as being in the business for 20 years and knowing more than most of the sales bods at direct line and the like they still have the final say even when they are wrong but I just have to lump it and go else where.

As I have said I have had good and not so good quotes form Chris knott and that is life but as a company I would recomend them and would be happy to put my business there if the £££'s where right.

Are we friends now

Totally agreed! But considering the price wasnt even there I've gone elsewhere, still very confused about the remap "excuse". I've never ever heard that one before! But to be fair, I think thats a better refusal excuse than the intercooler one that so many members complain about.
