Hello,

I've noticed this evening that my car is making a noise thats best described as sounding like either one of the new Mini's (that electrical sound) or a Super Charger. I used to have this on my Fiesta and it was down to the PS pump boiling over, could it be with ?

Is this a common fault on the Focus ? If so, any ideas on what it is ?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

If the noise stops when you remove the engine oil dipstick, its the oil filter housing diaphram. If it is you need to drive it as little as possible till you get it replaced.

It seems to be fairly loud when travelling in gear but when out of gear it seems to be silent, would this tie in with the above ?

is it in every gear?

my gearbox whined in 1st 2nd and 3rd and was replaced under warrenty.

Iv noticed it in the first 4 gears.

Iv got 4-5 months left of warrenty on my car but its been modified, i know ford will argue the gearbox (quite rightly) but for the oil diaphram failure, is this a costly resolution if they wont cover it under warrenty ?

Cheers for that. It's not that then. It's more of a fuel pump whine, but I cant really locate the whine, I'm sure I can hear it when outside the car too. If the oil diaphram does fail, can I drive the car at all?

Saw them, but wanted to make sure

Well I can deffo say mine doesn't sound like that. Is it a case of getting it to the dealer ASAP then, or can you use it for the work commute but taking it very easy while waiting for the part to arrive?

In truth i'd suggest your noise is something else - if the diaphram goes you'd know about it and wouldn't have kept driving the car round for so long (I hope!!)

Have you compared it with other ST's? could be transmission related or engine depending if it's heard all the time or ony in gear etc.

A trip to one of the ST specialists recommended on here may be worthwhile before taking it into a dealer?

My whine is constant all the time, doesn't change pitch or anything when driving. I've got used to it now and dont hear it. But it is there.

If I phone my dealer can they check on their computer what recalls are due and have been completed on my ST. And also if the alternator and things like that have been replaced?

Be worthwhile comparing with another ST I'd say.

The dealer should be able to tell you if any recalls or service actions are outstanding on your car tho they may not do this over the phone. Not 100% sure if they can see the whole warranty history on your car but it can't hurt asking.
