Where did you send the cluster for repair?

I've been recommended by a mechanic friend to use bba reman and will be sending my clocks to them when I get the chance to hopefully prevent having a problem like this. Apparently if you send them ECU and other bits they'll go through the whole lot, but they seemed confident in what my problem is and only want the clocks. Time will tell when I get around to using them for my case but might be worth a call.

AA did test the battery and alternator and told me it was good.

AA tested my battery and said it was good, gave it a good charge and next morning was flat again. I would hope they don't always get it wrong but wouldn't take it as gospel that what they say is right.

Flat battery would lead me to think maybe the battery is at fault.

Again wouldn't trust the AA man too much, they're good but the same happened to me and bought a new battery

As I understand it it is essentially a hard drive/"simple" computer. It might just have glitched, failed, corrupted, poor connection...

My pc won't turn on if I leave something plugged into a specific usb port. Wouldn't be surprised if the car won't start or tries to protect the engine if it's not getting a clean signal through a certain pin...

If you've ruled out battery (and it's connected properly, I don't fully understand how but I've had a car that would sometimes start sometimes do nothing and it was simply because a battery connection was a little loose...) And the clocks definitely aren't at fault and the wiring isn't damaged and you've been told it's most likely the ECU, it's probably a good bet to have it tested as a likely culprit
