Well after just over a year of ownership my baby is gone. I thought i'd share my ups and downs with yourselfs. Bought new in November 08 in white base ST-3 3 door with no extras as i thought the car was pretty well speced from the factory. She arrived to my horror with no paint on the underside of the doors and a dose of serious bad decal application on the near side. After declining acceptance of the car, Sighthill peoples in edinburgh were prompt at rectifying all untill i was totally happy and offered free first service. It never took me long to get the mountune upgrade fitted and all i can say is wow, if anyone is ever in doubt to what to do to their car this is it if you dont want to go "too far" Absolutly transformed the car 100% and obviously no warranty issues.

4 services carried out all by the supplying dealer who still struggle to understand i WANT a service every 5000 miles, went through 3 sets of front tyres, found the mich pilot sport 2 assy's best for the job. Quick step to 22k miles brings us to the death of the car, she was parked up outside the house shivering in the snow when a neighbour lost control and at low speed hit the drivers side door, rear quarter and bumper, after being "repaired" she never felt the same, she went back to the garage on several occasions to get bits and bobs sorted but never the virgin she first was!

So to cut a long story short i managed to get an excellant deal trading in against the last of the mk5 golf gti's again in white 3 door leather, monza 2's, xenons, winter pack, sat nav etc, slightly better spec to the st-3 but not much in it and i'm once again enjoying the new car experiance.

What can i say about the st-3, loved it, absolutly loved it and have nothing but praise, the only niggle i had was an unidentifiable little rattle behind the dash at (cough) 80MPH - on the track officer, and the fuel consumption, i never thought the later would really affect me but after 8 months of being at the pumps almost twice per week, the beer token money did start to deminish!

So the future, well, i already have a revo remap, full miltek and carbonio intake booked in for fitting in the next week, should see approx 270 horses and 280ftlbs, but i know im going to miss the warble from the 5 pot but hopefully the bloke at the local shell garage will forget my name....

The main thing is you had enjoyment out of it while you had it. I think its well worth the extra fuel when you actually look forward to the drive to work.

I totally agree with you on the damage, a car you had from new just loses its shine once something like that happens and you keep looking for problems as you know it aint quite right.

All the best to you and the GTI

TBH i'd be nit picking between them, as it is currently standard it does feel down on power A LOT just now, just does not have the mid range poke that the mountune had, yes the interior on the golf does feel that little more superior and i find it has a little more on edge grip but i think thats just because its not got as much power going through the front wheels! The only main reason i never bought another was i fancied a change ( sorry fuel ecconomy if the wife see this ) otherwise i would have jumped straight into another.

Thanks for the comments chaps i was completly gutted, she was washed and polished every week and waxed every 3. What makes it worse is i was standing at the window and seen it all in slow motion, i'm still having nightmares now!
