Brake Fluid Going Down!

474 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  TheCustomTouch
Hey up people.

Over the last 2 days I have noticed that the Brake Fluid level warning light keeps comin on the dash, so I checked the level and its below the min mark!

Last time i checked it (2 days before) it was on max!

I took it to my mates garage (sometimes known as a rip of person), and he said if its not leaking fluid on the brake pipes or the calipers, then it will be the clutch cylinder leaking, and the fluid is goiing into the gearbox and can catch fire.....

Do any of you know if this is true?

Thanks,

Andy Ferriby

Thats an entirely plausible explanation apart from the catching fire bit! If theres no sign of a leak at the calipers or master cylinder then its most likely the clutch slave cylinder! It will however knacker the clutch plate if its not repaired!

It isn't a level indicator as such, just a low level warning.
At one point i had a seal come off on clutch hose, the part that goes into plastic bit of clutch release bearing with bleeding valve. The clutch pedal went to the floor after a few pumps and fluid level dropped somewhat but i had no indicator on dash whatsoever.

I am assuming if release bearing is dripping fluid into bell housing you'd have clutch slip and, like in my case, it would be open circuit in the clutch region, which doesn't appear to throw any lights.

My guess would be that the light is indicating something other then clutch.
