Bluetooth Queries

861 Views 19 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  duckpond
im hoping someone knows if i have something not enabled or if it simply wont work, car is 2006, st3 with bluetooth and voice control! my phone is a nokia E51!

query is, when i receive a call, it cuts the radio or cd or aux fine, but there is no audible ringtone, it does not play the ringtone that is stored on my phone... is this normal to play no sound at all when a call comes in?

second query is when a call comes it, it displays the phone number of the person ringing me on the headunit..

now the phone number is stored on my phone memory with a name attached

is there anyway for the sony display to show the name of the person ringing, rather than just show the digits?

cheers

Does it not ring at all? or maybe is your phone set on auto answer in the bluetooth settings so it's not getting a chance to ring?

I think the only way to have the callers info displayed on the radio is if you've got the higher spec bluetooth system which includes the cradle you plug your phone into.
no the phone is not set to auto answer as i have to press the button on the stalk to accept the call

it just mutes all sound when a call comes in, displays the phone number of the person who is ringing on the sony, and when i press the button on the stalk it answers fine and i can have the conversation perfectly fine

does anyone else with bluetooth get their contact names displayed on the sony when they ring?

or is it the same as mine only displaying the callers digits, even when they are stored contacts on the phone?
Depends on how compatible your phone is with the ford unit.
My last Motorola wouldn't display contacts unless I copied sim contacts to the phone memory. The Nokia 6600 slide I have now works perfectly including displaying contacts and having the ringtone on the head unit.
Check you compatibility here:
http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/

You may also have to download an SIS file from Nokia to update the software to work. It's on the Nokia site somewhere,

Well that's something I didn't know

But then sods law says my latest phone isn't on the list (Nokia 5800) and the sis download isn't right for my phone cos it's s60 v5 apparently

ive downloaded the sis file for the Nokia E51 and its active on the phone now, went out to the car and went to see could i access the phonebook from the sony headunit, but no joy, all i got was debond phone, call options > reject call, and redial!

no phonebook option, i even set 2 or 3 contacts to transfer to sim, still no phonebook displayed

should phonebook be an option when you press the phone button on the headunit?

argh!
Not sure if this only applies to the Nokia 810 in car phone but i found some info on the web saying you de-bond phone, mark some contacts and select to send by bluetooth to the car?
yeah my googling turned up that bit of info aswell, but with the e51 if you mark a few contacts, there is no option to "send"

all you get is syncronise, which dosent work at all, i indeed also debonded and rebonded but to no avail

it must be the E51 i guess
EDIT
This is bugging me probably slightly less than you so just had a look on the compatibilty website
http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com/ov...&intro_date=

Select 'more details' for the E51 phone.
It says the bluetooth phonebook will work but only through the phone memory, not the SIM.

I guess you could try a mates phone with your head unit to see if that works?
Some info from the facelift handbook that may help:
Compatibility of phones
CAUTION
As no common agreement exists,
mobile phone manufacturers are able
to implement a variety of profiles in
their Bluetooth devices. Because of this,
an incompatibility can occur between the
phone and hands-free system, which in
some cases may significantly degrade the
system performance. To avoid this
situation, only recommended phones
should be used.
Please visit the website www.fordmobile-
connectivity.com for full
details.
Phones with Symbian operating
system
Note: Certain phones require a special
file to be installed to enable full phonebook
access via Bluetooth.
This is referred to as a SIS file and will be
available to download via the Ford website

connectivity.com.

Phonebook
Note: It may be necessary to confirm
phonebook access to the Bluetooth
system via the mobile phone.
After start up access to the phonebook
list can be delayed for several minutes,
depending upon the size.

thanks for that

i have the sis file on the phone, it runs automatically, it has no options though it just says ready

there is no option to transfer the contacts to the radio

so i presume they should be available when the phone is linked with the car by turning on the ignition, but it dosent let me access the phonebook

ill have to try a mates fone to see the results with that, rather annoying when it says it IS compatible with my nokia e51

I'm not sure if I'm reading your reply correctly.
You shouldn't have to transfer your contacts to the Sony headunit. If it's communicating correctly with your phone it should read your phonebook via bluetooth.
As I said in my last post, it look as though your contacts have to be in the phone memory rather than on the SIM.

Where are your contacts stored on the phone? If you're using just the SIM card then copy your contacts to your phone, set the phone to use the phone memory for your phonebook, and then see if that works.

thanks yet again for your presistance Andy

i have gone as far as to go into my contacts, select SIM contacts, and delete them all

thus meaning i would assume i am simply left with the contacts that are stored on the phones memory,

im after taking out the memory card in it aswel, the only other option is to delete all the contacts, create a few new ones and try that

which i will have a go at tommorow
To access the phonebook from the sony unit I press the button that you would use to skip a cd track forward. 1 press is missed calls, 2nd press is phone book, 3rd is recieved, 4th press is dialled numbers.
The down button on the volume dial lets me scroll down through my contacts list in my phone, by name.
I have an iphone which works perfectly, but the wifes samsung will only display names from her phone contact list only if they are saved on the phone.
No ford phone cradle requires for either of these.
When the phone rings it's a simple "ring ring". No choice of ringtones.
Have you got voice control? If so you should be able to store numbers into the sony unit. This should let you ring out.

Good luck with getting it set up, well worth it.
i removed fuse 58 and 83 in the hope the reset might fix things, it didnt

i then tried another phone i had lying around, a nokia 6230i, again pairs fine, but no phonebook access

this is really annoying me now

Keep going fella, we will sort it!!

Just to labour a point...
Is your phone set to use the phone memory rather than the SIM for the phone book?
yep i set the 6230i to use phone memory, still no phonebook (ford connectivity state the 6230i should work with sim and phone contacts but it didnt)

on the e51 there is no option to select what memory the phonebook uses, so i deleted all sim contacts so all im left ith what is stored on the e51 memory
Hi mate.
Amazingly I've just got myself an RS and I've been suffering the same problem! On the sister RS site there's a few people that are struggling.
Two problems with my Nokia 6600 slide (which worked fine with my facelift ST3 HU). No access to phone book and pairing with the HU starts the music player on my phone. It's not got a full rating on the connectivity site so I tried a 6300 which has - same problem.
Solved the phone book issue by copying my contacts over to the phone memory and setting the phone to use that memory only. Phone book now works properly but I still get the music player booting when it pairs. Not a real issue but annoying and will no doubt impare battery life.

When it comes to your E51. Isn't there a setting that allows access to SIM? Mate at work has one and I thought I saw that. Maybe worth a try.
In the car and the van when first setting up the phone pairing I was asked by the phone that the car etc wanted access to the phonebook and would i allow this always.

Have you tried debond and reconnect and watch the phone display to see if its waiting for you select this.

Good luck
yeah there is an option to access SIM memory on the E51, but shur it states that it needs to pull the numbers from the phone memory so im unsure what you mean by this

i just tried my mothers motorollo phone and again same problem, syncs fine, but no option of a phonebook on the radio itself

im beginning to think it needs to be reprogrammed or updated through a ford IDS machine in a main dealer?
has anyone got a Nokia E51 currently in use with their ST bluetooth radio?
