Automatic Locking

806 Views 21 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Gweebs
Hi, I previously had a 2006 ST2 which would lock itself as you drove away, I now have a 2008 ST3 and cannot seem to get it to work on this one. Does anyone know if it is still possible on the facelift model??

Thanks

It is possible - probably.

But you'll need the help of a friendly Ford dealer, or a tuner such as DS/Pumabuild etc etc, who have access to the Ford IDS.

Rumour has it the last version of the IDS has this feature removed though...

This is covered in detail in the Technical Sections.

Recommend joining up - it'll be the best £10 you'll spend....

As always choccy, 100% correct.

And a respose in 5 mins, talk about service.

Pumabuild can still do this mod, but no ford dealer can as they have all upgraded to the new IDS software.

Agreed.

I suspect a lot of the Ford dealers are in between upgrades of their IDS - particularly if the update was recent.

Ford garages are spectacularly bad regarding this "mod". I got asked if my car was a Transit by Taunton Ford, as that is the only car that it could possibly be carried out on.

I offered to arrange a meet of Focus ST's on the forecourt, all of which had the "auto door locking mod". The service man got grumpy. I went away.

From memory, the IDS has to be in "Engineering Mode" (not all Ford garages have access to this), and they have to enable "Taxi Mode".

However, as mentioned previously, I believe this feature has been removed from the latest version of the IDS due to concerns about the doors UNlocking in the event of an impact.

DS and Pumabuild can DEFINITELY do it right now. You MIGHT be able to find a tame, knowledgeable Ford dealer that can do it.

However, I suspect time is short. If the feature has been removed, presumably when/if DS/Pumabuild upgrade THEIR IDS systems, they will no longer be able to perform this upgrade?

All of the above nothwithstanding, I believe the new super-sexy DS Stratagem Ultra thingy will allow you to enable this feature on your car yourself.

You flatter me.......

The response in 5 minutes I guess is a sad reflection of the amount of time I spend on here.

Happy Christmas All!!

It's a 5 minute job - but you need someone with the correct version of the Ford IDS system to do it for you.

See above posts.

The UNlocking is the reason they're not doing it. In the event of an accident, the doors will not unlock automatically (unlike certain BMW 1-series
where the auto-locking is a menu option..).

Just press the button to lock the doors before you set off, it isn't hard to do.

Does the dreamscience ultra enable this? I didn't know?

Can ford not just change the UNlocking setting on the ECU, so if you in a bump then it unlocks via the airbag system.

So if an airbag goes off it unlocks, surely this is just a ECU rewrite, and even let us enable and disable via the dashboard menu?

Maybe I am wrong as i am no programmer LOL
The doors not unlocking was discussed about 12 months ago, I do not think this was a major issue/requirement.

But what annoys me is the so called techies at the fraud dealers don't know how to turn it on and even say it can not be done etc.
