There have been rumours in the US that the all new Ford Focus will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday 11th January.

It started off as forum comments, but is now reported as being "highly likely" in the US motoring press.

As far as I am aware... there is no Ford Focus in the USA so why unveil it there (apart from it being the HQ etc etc).

Surely it would be more suited to a big European Motor Show where its sold in bulk?

Or am I completely wrong as usual

Usually, you would all be quite correct in dismissing this.

However, the next generation Focus will be the exactly same car in North America as it will be in Europe. Same platform, same engines, everything apart from the odd small detail for local legislation.

Check out the US Fiesta being launched there soon, look familiar.............

I have talked to Ford this morning and I can confirm that this is true. This is a pre production styling so things can change before production. I have also discovered that from July 2010 Ford cannot make the ST or RS engine due to emission regulations.

Curious if this was a good source within Ford or from dealers, who have been known to speak with Ford tongue?

Understandable that Volvo cease ST and RS engine production at that time as obviously th ecurrent models end, but what about all the other cars using the engine - Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max plus C30 etc?

Just as well my car is pre ordered , but i have been told that the shape maybe different, I hope not !!!!!

I have talked directly with Ford as I work with the Colour styling people for the show cars. They confirmed the Focus is on display. Although the engines will no longer be made after July I guess Cars will be available for some time after this. It my opinion this could drive up the prices of 2nd ST until the new replacement that will be based on 2.0lt turbo engine. For those wishing to by some of the last RS their will be a special colour but this is a confidential at the moment.
