I Picked up ST2 today, gave it some pain coming home, well impressed..now to music/SYNC etc, that has been discussed on a few threads..

File formats:

the latest SYNC version can play MP3,WMA,WAV,ACC the wording indicates it might play other formats as well? (some one on here was gonna convert all their M4A files) My version is the latest as it includes the emergency services contact thing. (Plus the dealer checked on my specific request)

USB Limits when using Voice Control to play tracks/albums/artists/genre's etc.:

Recognized my 128GB sandisk USB stick, 70GB worth of MP3s, approx 6500 tracks.
ISSUE 1: didn't recognize my snadisk cruzer 16GB Stick....
ISSUE 2: After 5 mins of indexing on the 128GB stick I got an audible message saying that ""due to the number of files on my device voice control was unavailble for 'TRACK SELECTION' on this device"" (I.E. you couldn't use 'play track xxxxx' voice commands)

Manual browsing worked ok and it appeared to index everything else correctly, so I could use voice control to play album/artist/genre etc, just not specific tracks.

Does anyone know max number of files for track selection by voice control?? - be nice to know, suspect it may be to do with the total index size limit (I have lots of compilation albums, and this will inflate the number of different MP3 Tags which it has to index as well)

Connecting a Subwoofer

due to have an installer have a look see at the car to see what options there are (prev. discussion re RCA / 'line level' outputs etc.) - I'll update on this next week

Disconnecting USB

Couldn't see an option for this, I would say best to switch to radio/cd or turn HU off before removing, same if you have an IPOD etc. connected

Initiating Voice Control

I have to press the button twice in quick succession for it work - thought you would only need to press it once as did dealer?

Seperate question to other owners - have noticed a bit of condensation on the inside of both lights after driving at the lower level, is this normal. (has been peeing down today)

Cheers All.

I've only ever used my iPod and had no issues. As for the voice control you should only need to press the button once! I haven't had no condensation in any of my lights. Well not that I've noticed lol

It really depends on when you want to disconnect your USB. If its when you have stop and ready to get out just turn engine of and out door a little bit as everything goes off USB wouldn't be working so would be the best way or like you said turning radio/hub off. To be honest I just take my iPhone out when ever even if am still using it and I've had no problem with.

As for the condensation I've not had any in mine. Think best thing to do is go see your dealer seals my not be right

cheers guys, more info on the maximum index size - it appears it is all related to 'grammer objects', fond this from

http://www.powerstro...er-dutys-2.html

"While there isn't an exact number for the maximum amount of songs that SYNC can handle, the capacity for SYNC is about 20,000 songs. This is assuming that the compression rate for these tracks would be at 128-Kbps. The higher the compression rate (192-Kbps, 320 Kbps) the smaller the number of tracks Sync can handle.

Just as with any other device, we cannot guarantee compatibility (because it is not on our device list). But as long as the device is formatted FAT32 and can be powered through USB (or you have some other way of powering up the device) it should work like any other mass storage device. NTFS does NOT work as a partition, it was thought to have, but was discovered not to work. Note the recommended maximum capacity for any media device is 100GB (again, not saying anything more will not work but that is the recommended maximum for reasonable SYNC performance).

SYNC has a limit of 15,000 grammar objects. After SYNC completes the indexing of songs, it begins creating the set of grammar objects or voice commands. Each song can have up to 4 commands associated with it, one each for: Genre, Artist, Album, and Track. Repeats are not counted, so if you have 100 songs by the Beatles, the Artist name "the Beatles" only counts as 1 toward that 15,000 total.

If the total number of voice commands would be over 15,000 at any time, the least specific group gets removed first. This is why your Track commands were disabled. Having 17,000 tracks would instantly put you over that limit, but grouping things by Genre, Artist, and Album gives less than 15,000 total. Depending on the diversity of your collection, reducing the track count to somewhere between 10,000 and 13,000 should restore the ability to use track commands.

According to the info I've gathered from the syncmyride user to user forum, there is a recommended max drive size of 100 gb, but larger can be used. There is no max to the number of files on a drive, instead there is a max of 15,000 "grammar objects" but exact duplicates only count as one. (1000 songs by Frank Sinatra is one "grammar object" for artist, each unique track title album name) count as one each and each album name also one each) "

Think I need to clean up my MP3 Tags, I am wondering how it handles empty 'genre' fields etc..
