I had another day on the puma today, did the passengers side wheel bearing and hub, track rod end, control arm and strut top and bearing. I also replaced the screen wash pump which leads onto what I posted in the general rant thread.

The control arm was in much the same condition as the drivers side, with the poly Bush torn and the rose bearing rusty.

I scrubbed and wire wheeled it then rust treated it. Once that dried I started to paint it, and gave it 3 coats.

I haven't done much on the millennium recently, just enjoying it.
Tire Wheel Car Sky Vehicle

I have fit some new door speakers.
It took me a few weeks of trawling through the internet looking for the correct speakers. I wanted the biggest I could fit without needing adapters or without cutting the door.
I finally settled on these. Although quite expensive for a pair of speakers.
Camera lens Camera accessory Cameras & optics Camera Material property

Thankfully they fir perfectly without any modifications, although I did make a small wiring adapter to go between the speaker terminals and the original ford plug.

While they were expensive, I think it was worth it for how good they look and sound. The only problem now is the rears need doing as they can't keep up.
Also this arrived today, A mishimoto oil sandwich plate with 3 1/8 npt ports to plumb in the sensors. I'm going to be fitting a dual oil temperature and pressure gauge.

I found a cheap dash surround on eBay for the center vent.

I removed the vent and the directional fins.

I used a 2" hole saw to cut through the rest of the fins then used a Dremel and grinding bit to tidy up.

I'm intending to use a spa design dual oil temperature and pressure gauge. I'd thought about removing both vents and making a plate to cover the hole and fitting 2 individual gauges bit I think the single gauge set in the vent will look neater and still leaves the other vent still functional.

I finally got around to fitting the gauge this afternoon. Thankfully it was relatively easy and no cutting or messing with the bulkhead was needed.

All I need to do now is set the hi and low alarms and change the oil pressure from psi to bar.

I had a play with the settings for the gauge today, these are all accessed via a single button I have fit in the blank button on the dash.

Oil pressure warning set to 0.9 bar, this causes the screen to change from green to red and the led at the top flash red.

OK, so this thread needs updating. Unfortunately a lot of the pictures are on the phone I replaced last month.

For now this is what I've done this evening in preparation for fitting this.

So first this is to remove the driveshaft, this needed to come out anyway as the seal was leaking.

Once the shaft is off its fairly easy to get the manifold out.

While it served its purpose, it was an awful system with a horrible tinny raspy sound. This wasn't helped by the poor fit that allowed the system to rest on the heat shields and constantly rattle. Hopefully I'll get the new system on tomorrow.

And finished.

The only problem I have is the o2 sensor extension harness I made is too short as the the sportex manifold had the take off further up the pipework. Also it only measured the exhaust from 2 cylinders, which wasn't ideal. The racing puma system has it set at the end of the pipework.

Some more fun with the puma, the gearbox torque link Is a bit on the sloppy side. There only seems to be 2 options to firm things up, poly bushes to replace the originals at £40 and a full link by vibratechnics for around £150. So thought I'd try the poly bushes first.

Getting the small bush and collar in was an absolute pain in the ****. It's a 2 piece bush and when pressing the collar through it would force the second half out no matter how much I tried. After several emails to flo flex and them asking to measure everything, it turns out they'd sent me the collar for the 35mm bushes and not the 33mm bushes for the puma link. Anyway, I got there in the end.

I fitted it this evening, as to be expected there are some more vibrations transferred into the car but nothing too bad and only seems to be between 1500 and 2000 rpm. With a bit of luck it will bed in and calm down.
I also treated it to some engine bay bling.

Another little job on this wet miserable Saturday.
The center console badge is well past it's best, the black paint has chipped off and looks a mess. Unfortunately the badge is no longer available, thankfully I managed to find a new old stock vct badge. These wete only fitted to the first 1500 1.7 pumas between 1997 and 1998.

When I owned my mk5 fiesta ZS, I opted to try the poly bushed torque mount, but for me the extra vibrations were too much, so I switched to a vibrantecniqs mount, I think I picked it up second hand, but good condition for around £60, there was a little extra vibration on idle but other than that, it was a really good product.

I think that's the route I'll be going, but it will have to wait as I'm having the inlet manifold blast cleaned and ported for the bigger throttle body next.
