£1k For A Clutch???

524 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Daz07
Clutch started slipping really badly last week, I'd been a bit enthusiastic but nothing I didn't expect the ST to cope with, didn't expect warranty to cover it as clutch would be wear and tear but didn't think it would cost a lot to replace.

I asked fordpartsuk and was quoted £349.23 delivered inc vat. The ford garage I took the car too (Marchargs South St Glasgow) want £450 for the parts and just over £500 for a full day labour.

Seems a little excessive, am I wrong? If not, any ideas where can do this for less?

I would uprate it to an RS clutch mate, otherwise you will just knacker another soon enough if your powers high!

Nick, how much are they? I heard they were cheaper, is that right?

I intend to as I'm led to believe the RS clutch is also cheaper, I'll let someone smarter than me figure out why

That's a very good deal if you can get there, I can't

Thanks for the comment though

The clutch listed is £172.98inc finis:1670062, but they are listing a new number for RS's built after 06/07/2009 which has no price yet...that is finis:1684815.

The RS slave is £101.69inc finis:1599267

But you may also need the flywheel which is £374.46inc finis:1575135

The ST clutch is £291.72 (poss £204.19 for a re-man if its correct not 100% sure)
Slave £101.69
Fly £408.80

i was told rs is cheaper due to it being so new, and it being under warantee

i got my clutch and DMF done last week with rs parts all fitted for £900

fordpartsuk.com is cheaper than ford at the moment
I believe in most cases (if not all) if you fit the RS clutch you need to match it with the RS flywheel too? Even replacing the standard clutch there's often wear found on the flywheel once it's stripped (or the flywheel itself has been slipping) so unfortunately you should be changing the pair as a set.

The difference in pricing for the RS clutch can't be down to it being new and under warranty, cos the same applies to the ST clutch for ST's under 3 years old. And ecconomies of scale 'should' apply to the ST clutch parts cos there's a hell of a lot more cars out there with it fitted (ST, Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max etc) compared to a max of 10,000 RS's if they even build that many.

PS anyone from Ford please ignore the above

Still not got this resolved. Machargs are gonna start getting annoyed with me, think I might just bring the car home and put it in the garage with a blanket and a nice warm cup of cocoa until after christmas, then I can get something organised properly.

I have another car I can use in the mean time anyway for getting to work etc, but it's not as comfy and takes forever to defrost!!!
