I don't normally read DM articles but this caught my eye as its everywhere near me and so annoying.
Why do the private motorist always get hit hardest.

It's completely wrong when COVID is used as the excuse for making these changes.

There's another agenda in play and they should at least be up front about that.

A high street near to me has been closed using this premise and neither the motorists nor shop owners were consulted.

The changes were only possible without consultation because of COVID emergency powers given to local authorities.

Well you can’t get a speeding ticket on a road you can’t drive down!

That's very true.

The future for the motorist looks fairly bleak.

This is in worthing, 3 cyclists have been spotted using it in one hour. I myself saw an electric scooter use the lane for around 20 feet, then he went on the pavement

That statement speaks volumes:

“As with the other six, trial schemes, adjustments will be considered and, if it does not work, it may be removed.

“When open, this will be the chance for cyclists to show how much they want the cycleway to stay: it will be a case of ‘please use it or risk losing it’.”

I read that to mean they intend the scheme to stay regardless of whether it works or not.

I read it as 'hedging their bets'. Once businesses that rely on footfall start to go to the wall, they will reverse their decision.

Our wonderful Labour council has installed 'pop-up' cycle lanes on several main routes into the city.

Result - traffic chaos with us all now crammed into one lane and you're lucky if you see a single cyclist using the other one.

Would this count as being a cyclist & then allow you to use a cycle lane for two wheeled 'vehicles'??
