So we decided to head to Criccieth for a few nights away with all my family. Set off Saturday and took the scenic route through the hills, into Porthmadog and then on to Criccieth.

These roads really made me appreciate the ST, diesel or not, this thing is set up very good, I had lots of confidence in it and it was good fun to drive, even if it wasn't spirited due to the kids and wife being in the car. I must say I like the car a lot more now. Some spectacular roads which I'll recommend a bit further down.

Anyway, the car was packed, then it was off to Broughton Retail Park to collect a few things and refuel. It surprising what you can fit in the hatch  :yep:  :surprised:

Now i had a lot of pictures on the GoPro, videos too, but it took a tumble off the drone then my brother formatted the card by accident. So I've had to improvise a little for the route there.

Start of the route was the B5215, been on this a lot, it's a nice scenic drive

Then on to the A494 to Bala, turn right onto the A4212. Again another fantastic road, scenic, plenty of room and good overtaking points for those caravans...

The the B4391. I've driven this before and it is spectacular, however in the ST, it was perfect. I'll be going back again without the kids to properly experience this road. Had a video of this road but it was lost with everything else as above  :Tantrum:

Then it was on to the holiday house. A place called Talhenbont Hall which is just outside Criccieth. Beautiful. Nothing around.

The next day, we go into Caernarfon, visit the castle and come across a classic car show, which was pretty good

The weather wasn't looking great the next day, so we decided to go on the Electric Mountain tour and the Llanberis Lake railway. Both of which were very good and the kids really (me too) enjoyed it. Great to look at Electric mountain from an engineers view, great achievement.

The route we took was from Porthmadog on the A498. Never been on this road before. WOW. I have to go back on this road. It was something special indeed. Start climbing up from the valley into the mountains. (Much better drive going up from Porthmadog, coming down wasnt the same.) Views great, roads great, stopped a couple of times to take pictures, then at the last stop we got the drone out, this is where the 'mishap' occured..

(this is where we lost the drone...)

Then at the top take a left onto the A4086. This was good fun. Not much room for error though...

There's not many more pictures, I found a great road that leads from Rhoslan to Criccieth (B4411), nice pleasant drive, took this from the dash camera, fortunately this saved....

Back home, had to take the A55 as i had to get back sharpish for work. Nothing really that good about this drive, the west end of the A55 is pretty scenic. Milage wasnt that bad in the end.

Hopefully I'll be able to organise a drive around there one Sunday morning, highly recomended :)

And if you got this far, thanks for reading.

Nice work mate - very thorough documentation of the trip.

We're off to the same area on Saturday.... staying at the Penmaen Estate between Pwllheli & Abersoch... cant wait. :)

I've done all the roads you mentioned before, all except the B4391. I must've gone a different way from Porthmadoc to Bala previously, so I'll give this road a try... it looks amazing !

I hope the weather is good for you like it was for us. Sat nav's seem to take you the grey route and avoid the 4391, I've had to add a way point to make sure I go along it. Worth it though. If you want to see a video of it, total porche took 3 cars down it last year.

It was the A498 that surprised me. It's just brilliant.

Thanks... but looks like the weather is just going to turn. :(

The A498 is a nice run, done that a few times. I dont think we'll be going towards the mountains though if the weather is mixed. Its usually better on the coast so we'll probably stay mainly on the Lleyn Peninsula. There are some great drives around and across it with great views.

And if you drive right down to the end there's this... the Irish Sea, Bardsay Island & over to Anglesey. 8)

Now that looks good. Wish I'd known about that last week lol. I've never really explored the peninsula much, just stayed around the towns and villages and never gone past Pwhelli.

@lgfst

Got back from a great week down in Wales at the weekend... :)

Weather was a bit mixed at the start but improved from Tuesday on and was superb from then through to Saturday.

As I expected we spent most of the time on the Lleyn Penninsula going to all the resorts and beaches... Borth y Gest, Criccieth, Pwllelli, Lanbedrog and Abersoch.

But on the Wednesday I was determined to head to Snowdonia and do that B4391 ! Soooo glad I did... what a great road and what brilliant scenery !! :yep:

The run across towards Bala was magic... the ST was in its element, followed by a fast BMW that was trying to keep up... he only caught up once we were on the A4212...

Only had time for a couple of pics but you get the idea:

20160616_132424_zpsxysoronh.jpg

Only problem was on the way back, a Police car appeared behind and followed me for most of the run until I went so slow he overtook ! Still it gave chance to appreciate the scenery even more. :)

So glad you enjoyed it. Has to be one of the best roads in Wales. I can't wait to go back.

Glad the weather was alright too, nice part of the country when the weather's good, plenty to do etc. Might have to move there lol.

Shame about the police car but there seems to be more and more, especially around the triangle. Last time I was at the triangle there was undercover BMW's following people around. Not that it bothered me really

Cheers - thanks for the recommendation !

Really lovely area and fantastic roads... especially if you get the weather...

One day we had been on the beach at Abersoch all day, gorgeous hot and sunny... then about 5pm the cloud started to come over.... we set off back to the cottage and when we got there (15 mins later) it was like this !!

Amazing how quick the weather can change. The car looks good in the rain!

I'm booking for next year.
