Bit new to this forum thing so bear with me!

Recently sold a focus st170 as myself and my wife had this a second car. We both really liked the car but it had done nearly 90000 miles and following a house move we no longer had need for 2 cars. Unfortunately the sale has meant we now do all our driving in a Clio 1.5dci 86 bhp. The clio is economical (yawn!) and fine for going to work and back (18 miles each way, country lanes only) but really isn't much good when we go further afield (visiting family, holidays etc). We promised ourselves that we would buy an ST-3 when one came along with 5 doors at the right price.....

So we thought we had found a good one (2008, sea grey 21000 miles, sat nav etc...) and managed to reach a deal with the ford dealer. On obtaining an insurance quote I was told that the car was in fact a focus st (260) - upgrade. On quizzing the dealer I have been told that the car has not been modified, or has and the modifications removed. Having done some research I understand mountune offer a (ford approved) kit upping power from 225 to 260 bhp. Supposedly this car has had one owner from new and has full service history. Is it possible for modifications like this to be removed??

On the face of it the car seemed good however to me the modifications and dealer knowledge do not add up.

Should I walk away? I'm after an original ST only!

Thanks

first off, :welcome: to the club :)

The dealer is probablly correct in this case, some cars are wrongly picked up as mountune "260 UPGRADE" by insurance companies. it mostly seems to affect 2008 cars. If you still suspect that the car has the mountune kit then you can easily tell by taking it for a test drive and seeing where it boosts to. if it boosts to 3/4 and settles about half way then its standard, anymore than that its remapped.

I'd say if it is the 260 then your getting a bonus as it cost's around £1200 to have this fitted and it's ford approved i wouldn't be with out my mountune and it also helps with the mpg a bit.

Just a thought regards the common fault list it would be good, especially for the complete novice, to have a little description for each point explaining what to look or listen for on the parts which may be faulty.

Otherwise appreciate you taking the time to put this guide up hopefully will come in handy this weekend :0)

Hi Guys

Looked at an ST2 wr300 today. very quick car but does anyone know of any problems the additional power creates, or any issues to looks for. Its only on 41k at the moment.

Pretty much reliable compared to most makes out there just some are more costly than others.

Rust on rr arches at 3-4 years old
Drive shaft CV joint clicking
Wheel bearings clicking/rumbling
Recaro driver seat movement/springs protruding thru padding
oil filler housing chokes up
Liners crack (very rare)
esp module

I have only had the first 4 on mine and hopfully wont ever experience the others as expensive. Other than that wear and tear due to my fine driving lol

You could go and buy an Audi/vw and have problems with window regulators, dual mass flywheel, multiple sensors on engine bringing up faults, injector and cam and turbo problems!!!

so on the whole its not that bad Yet......

HI, All not sure if its standard but if I hold the flash on my lights when car is off and just lock the car the head lights stay on for a little while which is great for walking in to your house from the drive way.Posted Image
