Hi folks,

I have decided to start a good buyers guide for second hand buyers with useful information.

I will make a detailed PDF in time with pics etc but would greatly appreciate loads of input so that potential buyers can start off with a good knowledge base before buying.

I was thinking the normal spec, optional extras and usual problems to mentions such as,

ST-1 Spec

(Easily identified by lack of headlight washer covers on the front bumpers)

Single Disc Ford CD Player
Recaro Sport Seats with Coloured Supports
Split Folding Rear Seats with 3x 3 Point Seat Belts
Continental Puncture Repair Kit
(ESP Standard 2008 Onwards)

ST-2 Spec

As above plus:

Xenon Headlights with Automatic Headlight Washers
Heated Windscreen
ESP (Included in ST-1 2008 onwards)
Single Disc Sony MP3 Player (Aux input in glovebox)
2 more speakers in the rear over the ST-1

ST-3 Spec

As above plus:

Full Leather Recaro Interior with Heated Front Seats
Sculpted Leather Rear Seat with 2x 3 Point Seat belts (strictly 4 seater only)
6 Disc Sony CD Player (MP3 Compatible 2007 Onwards)

Optional Extras

ESP (ST-1) (Standard across whole range from 2008 onwards)
Sunroof
Heated Cloth Seats - (ST-1, ST-2)
Sculpted Rear Cloth Seats with 2x 3 Point Seat Belts (strictly 4 seater) * Old option no longer available.
DEATC - Climate Control
Bluetooth Connectivity with Voice Control
DAB Sony CD Player
USB Input
DVD Sat Nav
Global Close - Gives 5dr's electric windows in the back. (windows also close when car is locked if lock button is held/open if unlock button is held)
Light and sight pack - Auto activation of front lights, auto wipers and auto dimming rear view mirror
Stripe kits - sides and over the top or both
Space Saver Spare wheel - Inc. jack, wheel nut wrench and rasied boot floor with storage pockets.
Upgrade to 6 CD changer on ST2
Rear Parking Sensors
Solar Reflect Windscreen
Key Free Entry

*Note - No ST comes with cruise control. Don't believe the classified ads!

Common Problems

Oil Filter Diaphram
MAF Sensor Problems
Seat Base Cracked
Alternator Failure
CV Joints
Power steering TSB
Drive Shaft TSB(no.64)
Rear Gearbox Mount
Side Skirts - Ensure on 3dr that the skirt is firmly attached to the bodywork where it meets the rear wheel arch.
ESP Module Failure
Wheel Breaing - Noticable by ESP system fault with 5th and 6th 'locked out'

etc.

I will edit this as and when more info comes along. Could be a great tool for newbies and help stop some duplicate threads.

Cheers to everyone so far. As you see im updating the list above as I go. In the coming days (possibly weeks, holiday soon) I'll be linking to full topics about each and making a PDF with a summary of the problem and how to check for it. Obviously this could take a lot of searching so any help just linkng to the relevant topics would be brilliant. Again many thanks so far.

The ST2 and ST3 have 2 extra speakers in the rear over the ST1

Externally the ST1 can be identified by having no headlight washer covers on the front bumpers

Side Skirts comming off at the back

not sure what ist call but in the wheel archers sometimes the screws come off and the black bit moves about.

Missing Options:

Global Close - with this with the 5 door you get electric windows in the back.

One of my side skirts is starting to move away from the body, is still secure, is there a quick way to fixing this? Is there some sort of bodywork glue cement u can get to stick it back on?

Thanks

Another option was the solar reflect windscreen 8).gif (which I have whistle.gif )

Also with the global close thingy, the windows also open when you unlock the car and hold the button yep.gif (which I also have whistle.gif )

I think you can't get the sculpted rear cloth seats any more unsure.gif could be wrong (which I also have whistle.gif )

EDIT: Forgot, key free was also an option (which I also have lol.gif )

There was never a 'full-size' spare wheel option. It was a mini space-saver spare.

Don't forget that the 'standard' spec of the 1/2/3 changed with the facelight. For example, ESP is now standard across them all, whereas pre-facelift it wasn't on the 1 and was an option only.
