A year per point, depends on the offence, if you get 3 points they are on for 3 years, if you get 6 points thery are on for 6 years ! :(

its not a year per point, they stop on the licence for 3 years but you have to declare them to ins for 5.

Thats good news then cos I got 9 points and to go to court again soon, but I was told by the police it was a year per point on any one conviction. Will tell them that.

tell me about it, ive only got 6 now that I got for speedin :( but I had another 5 before that which came from an accident, and I wouldnt of been able to insure the ST if I still had them on my licence, as they were from early 2006 so ran out for insurance purposes in early 2011

Trying my best to go steady and be as unobtrusive as possible, when this morning ...

At normal speed I come up behind a 10-year-old Astra crawling along in the outside lane of a dual carraigeway. After about 10 secs it pulls over and as I pass the driver holds up a police warrant card

He pulls me over and gives me a massive lecture accusing me of speeding (I wasnt), careless driving (how ?) and inciting road-rage by intimidation (FFS !). Said he used to be a traffic cop and that I needed to swap my ST for a 'normal' Focus or go on the autobahn !! :o

If this is what happens when driving normally, I've got no chance...

He was or you are? He was probably just having a bad day. Were you doing the speed limit?

Sorry but if he wasn't in a police car or an unmarked car with the lights and sirens blaring there is no way I'd have pulled over for him!

It's not that simple though as I have been faced with a similar incident when I was travelling along a dual carriage way at 40mph which I used to travel every day but didn't know it had been reduced to 30mph (lack of attention on my part) and overtook a Toyota Yaris only to be pulled over at the next set of lights after he shown his warrant car.

He wasn't the happiest of chaps and read me the riot act and apparently he could radio for a traffic car to attend and deal with the offence on his word alone which I dont know if it is true but if so you could also be charged with failing to stop once he has identified himself.

I must point out though that this was in broad daylight and I never got out my car which is always locked and spoke to him through a open passenger window, if he requested I got out then I would either insist on a traffic car attending or to go to the nearest police station to sort it out.
