Right folks,
It took a little while to get it all sussed out and a DIY install kit made up.
But here we go.
The wiring is achieved by the use of 3 automotive relays to piggy back the sensor onto an existing input, in this example I have chosen the bonnet sensor due to it being the easiest wire to trace.
The alarm inputs for the ST work by the use of a 12v input when live/armed and when the switch is opened i.e. door/bonnet/tailgate door pins then the input is connected to 0v / earth and this triggers the alarm
This set up means when either the tilt sensor or the chosen switch you have piggybacked onto is triggered the input for the alarm will drop to 0v and sound the alarm.
the sensor in this how to was an Ampire AS100 sensor which i organised a group buy for, very good quality and easily hidden
1st off the wiring diagram looks something like this

for those of you who are not too keen on electronics or auto electrics i have had some PCB's made up with all the circuitry and relays required so minimal wiring is required
note this is a test board and my final install will have an enclosure round it
The AS100 sensor has 4 wires, only 3 are visible at first
if you peel back the black sleeve you will find the blue wire turns into a green wire and a fourth white wire is also found
red= sensor 12v power
black = earth connection
green= sensor output
white = sensor reset (apply 12v)
I had already connected the sensor to the board before going out to the car.
looks something like this

location of the bonnet switch wire:
first off for this how to you want to remove the glove box (7 torx screws which include the 2 for the glovebox latch) and drop the fuse box to air you access. remember to remove the wire for the auxilliary input before hauling the tray out.
i also removed the glove box door which easily pops out.
as you look into the space behind the glove box you will see a couple looms entering the cabin through the bulk head on the right.

the wire you are looking for is on the smaller loom which runs down a bit then off towards the passenger side of the car. The wire is Black with a yellow(B/Y) stripe.....not to be mistaken for the yellow with a black stripe on the larger adjacent loom which runs to the fuse box.
Cut the tape binding the loom and locate the B/Y wire. this wire needs to be cut to tie the sensor into the bonnet sensor alarm input.
dont make the mistake of cutting the wire too close to the right hand side as this makes connecting the extension wires a pain. there is plenty lenght on this wire to cut it towards the left hand side.
Cut the B/Y wire and connect 2 extension wires coloured accordingly (i used blue) it does not matter which way round you connect these in the circuit as long as you connect to the correct 2 terminals on the board.

next off you need to locate your power and earth connections
you need
1 x 12v continuous
1 x 12v switched i.e ignition
1x ground , chassis or loom tie in
the easiest place to find these is behind the stereo and tie into the stereo loom.
if you remove the stereo you will find you can reasonably easily feed wires along imediately behind the dash into a void on the right hand side of the glove box which is also big enough to house the PCB or relay assembly.
connect the earth and switched supplies 1st then turn on the ignition to reset the sensor.
then connect the +12v supply to the board.

you are now in a position to test the set up if you want, by manually moving the tilt sensor with the alarm armed.

once you silence the alarm you will need to apply a 12v reset to the sensor by turning the ignition on
once happy with the operation, you can tuck the assembly in to the right hand side of the glove box into the void you fed the wires through. use some double sided tape to stop it rattling around if you want.
you can now mount the sensor anywhere you want. 2 good places are under the passenger seat or behind the right hand side trim of the passenger foot well.

piece all the trim back together making sure you dont trap wires in the hinge assembly of the glove box and remember to connect the aux input wire back
note the bottom left of the glove box needs to be tucked behind the dash before securing or you cant shut the door
while the glove box was out i also took the opportunity to fit a coloured LED bulb to the glovebox lighting

just a suggestion
and that is it folks!!

As there are quite a few of you asking about the features of this option thought it would be a good idea to host the user manual as some people are not getting it with their cars. its in PDF format so it can easily be printed off

ISO Connectors layoutJust a quick one to show the layout of the (International Standard Organisation’s) standard wiring harness for a HeadUnit!
1 - Speed dependent volume control (This is the wire that can control a radio’s volume as your speed changes)
2 - Muting control (Used mainly for telephone kits so they mute the radio during a call, I believe this wire just grounds to mute)
3 - Reversing light switch (This pin is mainly used by SatNav systems when satellietes are out of range, between this and pin 1 it can ‘guess’ where you are from your last know location, this is called ‘dead reckoning’)
4 - 12V (Permenant 12v Live... this wire is used to keep settings stored etc. when the ignition is off and power the HeadUnit... this is always live, in the ST this also would power the unit when the ignition is off..)
5 - Automatic aerial (To tell the car to extend the ariel if the car has an auto extending arial)
6 – Illumination (Tells the radio, if it supports it, to dim when you turn the headlights on)
7 – Ignition (Switched 12v, that switches your HeadUnit on when the ignition is on. Obviously in this doesn’t have to be on in the ST as you can bring up the hour on feature)
8 – Ground (The ground for the HU, the negative wire.. )
1 - Right rear speaker positive (+)
2 - Right rear speaker negative (-)
3 - Right front speaker positive (+)
4 - Right front speaker negative (-)
5 - Left front speaker positive (+)
6 - Left front speaker negative (-)
7 - Left rear speaker positive (+)
8 - Left rear speaker negative (-)
Obviously not all cars have all the pins

Was getting abit pished off with the AUX lead just dangling ready for someone to accidently rip it out with there legs. So i took the glove box out and ran the cable from behind, then fed it under dash until it appeared under the gear gaitor then fed it under the Handbrake and just poped it up beside the handbrake, ok its not perfect but its a 100% better then looking like you've trapped a wire in your glove box look

Heres the end result

Just spoken with my dealer and I am slightly confused!
When I ordered my 2008 ST3 the only option available was Bluetooth at 150 pounds (Sorry on a US Keyboard!), now I find out the ST3 Bluetooth option on the Ford website has Bluetooth and USB for 200 pounds? My car was built on the 10th April and I have been led to believe Bluetooth includes USB after the 1st April?
The dealer has informed me that the car will not come with USB as this is currently an 50 pound option which has to be ordered in addition to Bluetooth. Can anyone please clear this up, is the dealer right and Ford website wrong?
If I don't get the USB option does anyone know if you can retro-fit the socket using OEM parts (assuming the Sony radio is compatible)?
Cheers

I thought that fitting the Focus

sat nav unit with the original fit (denso) would be too expensive and far too complicated so i got hold a Galaxy/Mondeo unit and just wandered what everyone thought?
So what do you think? let me know?

Has anyone noticed a problem with the time on their ST when the clock is set to GPS??
Since the clocks went back 1 hour, the time on my ST is incorrect. When set to GPS the time is now 1 hour behind - so at 6.30am it says 5.30am etc. If I select BST (which it obviously isn't) the time corrects itself but the date then goes 1 day out.
I now have to have the date and time set to manual??
Anyone seen this or know how to resolve it? I have the touch screen version.
Thanks,
Sean.

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has succesfully fitted the Dension Ford Gateway 100 Ipod Car Kit to the Denso Sat Nav. It doesnt list the Denso unit in the compatibility chart just Visteon radios. It works by replicating a CD changer, and thought that if the CD changers are the same for the Visteon and Denso units (same protocols) it would in fact work for the Denso unit.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if there are speaker adapters out there, that allow you to mount new speakers to our ST's. I bought a new stereo and the speakers are usless.
I also noticed that the speakers are rivited into the door, whats all that about then ?

Is there a way to set the head unit to always have the shuffle feature on? At the moment the feature switches itself off when changing discs.
Thanks

Quick question regarding the aux connection in the glove box on a facelift st3. Are Ford meant to supply the cable to go with it?
Thanks

Hi All,
I have a facelift ST2 that I bought recently (not brand new) and have just installed a Parrot kit and now can't find my radio code. I seem to have misplaced the Radio booklet that was in my pack. So I call the original Dealer who tells me I have to go to my local Ford and they will take out the radio, check the code on the back and find the code for me.
So the missus (who has the car today) just ran the car down there and they now want £45 to do it because some of the dash needs to be removed aswell. WTF!!! Is this a P*ss take or what. Surely there is another way to get the code.
Anyway rant over, any ideas???

Does everyone's bluetooth 'unpair' 'disconnect' 'turn off' when they turn the stereo off in their car with engine / ignition on?
Obviously sometimes you just want to listen to the 5 pot, so you have no pre-requisate to have the Stereo on at all. Bearing in mind in other marques, when you turn the car stereo off, the bluetooth module is still alive to take the calls and play them through the speakers like you would if the car stereo in the focus was actually on.
It is annoying- as instead of pressing -On/Off, I am having to press 'phone' which turns off the CD/Radio and goes into the phone menu, Which keeps the Cd on 'pause'.
Interesting one....

Forgive me for being a div, but does the radio change the time on it's own when british summer time ends and begins. Only i had to go and do it manually, in the radio handbook it gives you a tip it says press and hold the clock button for more than 2 seconds to automatically select the hour value for winter or summer time adjustment. I did try this but nothing happened any advice please.

Thought you might be interested to see my new install; Pioneer DEH-P700BT.
Very pleased with unit, gives me full bluetooth hands free and I have finally dispensed with my stack of MP3 CDs, replaced with 16GB USB stick located in the glove box (note; photo shows 1GB stick I was using for testing, the 16GB stick now in use holds about 250 or so albums, or >3500 tracks).
Unit gives me easy track navigation with almost instant track access, sound quality a major step up from my old Sony HU even with standard speakers (much crisper bass), good quality hands free which works when unit is 'off' (ie; connects up to phone when ignition turned on).
Paid £200 plus all the usual fittings/adaptors. Went in with no problems.
Found it much easier to attach mic to sunglasses holder rather than visor and it sounds fine to callers.
