I dont no if i'm being unlucky but im needing my third windscreen in 7 months. It seems that the smallest stone hits it at any speed and a small crack appears which quickly grows. Anyone else suffering with weak screens?

If you are fully comprehensive insured, Autoglass and the likes repair windscreens for free.

I've cracked mine but I wouldn't go as far as to say that there is an inherent weakness. Might be a good subject for a poll.

the council around here has just done the cheaters way of resurfacing roads by dumping loose stones on it and I've been bricking it driving through it twice a day and everytime I get the predictable THWACK I have to give it an inspection when I'm home. So far so good, windscreen and paint {shockhorror} have both taken almighty bullets and are showing no ill affects *touches as much wood as he can find*

I had 2 solar reflect screens cracked in 2 months, caused by stones being thrown up from passing oncoming lorries on the other side of the road. After a decade with no screen issues in my other Fords, this was either really bad luck or the solar reflect screen is a little delicate.

I have always managed to go through at one windscreen in 12 months on average on all my cars so i dont think the ST's is weaker in anyway. Driving behind lorries seems to be the sure fire way of cracking a windscreen What i hate is the fact that the auto glazers can make a real mess when they replace it. Make sure you make them do a pre vehicle inspection and list any damage, if any......that way your covered..

The sola screens are no weaker than the std heated ones, they are all the same thickness & EU approved/marked. Any modern car with a direct glazed (bonded) screen is at its weakest around the edges due to body flex, if it takes a knock from even the smallest stone in this area it will probable crack more or less straight away. If a stone hits it in a more central possition it usually just chips, which can be repaired. The focus doesn't seem to suffer from screens cracking any more than any other car. The main thing to watch out for when replacing is poor workmanship due to fitters rushing the job, scratching the paint work & not re priming the body correctly so its eventually rusts. If you want to protect your interests pre-inspect the car with the fitter before its worked on, & choose an independent ATA/NVQ3 qualified installer ( like me! )

My cracks have been towards the edges of the screen so that all makes sence now that its the weaker area. Just bad luck i spose. Thanks for your info
