Ehm....

Just got home from a very long trip.

Picked the car up at Midday. Got all the way bakc to Aberdeen at midnight! 12 hour drive as I drove quite slow most of the way 36mpg!!!

Got one toe in Aberdeen and the engine started steaming (MAJOR) Steaming.

I Pulled over as quick as I could and the stink was unreal! Fishy coolant smell.

Tried to start the car again as where I stopped it wasnt the best of places, and the engine is now siezed.

Car is less than 12 hours old and engine goes and packs in!

There were no warning lights on the dash / display and the guages were all reading ok?

GREAT.

I take it Im well within my rights to reject the car now ???? Being as it will need either a new engine or a complete engine rebuild ???

That really sucks mate!!

Im not sure on the consumer rights act on this one, but when I picked mine up I was told to avoid staying in one gear on the same revs for any length of time. So if asked by the dealer say that you continuously broke up your journey by taking A roads and went through all gears as often as you could and used the rev range without going to high?

Hope it goes well for you mate, well it should, if it dont you need to name and shame the dealership. But if they do, praise them like wise?

Just been to the garage and helped the mechanics push it into the workshop. They pored a large watering can of water into the coolant bottle, and it pored straight out the underneath of the car. They then started the car, and although there was a bit of coughing and spluttering to start with - it started and idled.

Hoping its just a hose come off, and that there is no perm damage to the car/ head of the engine.

Here's hoping this afternoon brings good news.

Right.

Just back from the Afternoon at the Garage:

Luckily I used to work at the Ford garage that the car is in at as we speak. Its actually a friend of mine who has got the job of stripping the car down and he has given me the following:

One of the Coolant hoses which goes into the Block at a 90 degree angle, still had the Jubilee clip 'masking' taped to the rubber hose, The pressure of the engine obviously pushed the hose off. So it is completely a Ford Factory Fault.

Resulting - the head is warped, the car 'evaporates' coolant fluid immediately upon it circulating round the engine. Plumes of smoke from the exhaust and yet! Still no warning lights / information and Temperature guage shows Normal.

I have been onto the garage that supplied the car, and they have processed the 'rejection' and are waiting for the Ford Area manager to get back to them regards the replacement car and hire car to keep me going meantime.
