Having recently seen a post on here about running the car in, and reading the article below just thought that i'd start a poll to see whats the general outcome of people running their cars in?

The poll is a little vague dont you think? I mean, what constitutes "gentle"?

I varied the throttle and revs when warm, but generally used 1/2 throttle most of the time and didnt rev above 3500. However, every so often I would give it some beans.

I'll second that...mainly drove it gently, but with the odd thrash throw in...could do with another couple of options in the poll me thinks yep.gif

I had my car delivered obn the same day as a friend of mines. Both ST2's.
I ran mine in as per link on the first post, my friend ran his in as per the Ford recommendation.

Both cars where compared at 5000 miles both to drive and on the rolling road.My car felt a lot looser and seem to spool up more quickly, my car on a set route (both cars run bluefin from new) with the mpg reset averaged 28mpg as apposed to my colleauges 26 mpg (same driver). At 10,000miles the mpg stayed the same but the bhp increased slightly, 15000 miles showed an increase in mpg to 29 and 27 respectively.

On the rolling road my car ran 268bhp and the other car 253bhp. Not a huge difference but it was a difference.

We are both keeping logs of fuel consumption and intend to rolling road test every 10,000 miles to see if the margin widens. Both cars are on 4 year contracts, both cars will run over 80,000 miles so we can asses the "running in hard" methods impact on wear rates. by comparing servicing costs and breakdowns at higher mileages.

First 500 miles kept revs below 3000 with odd time going over this. At 500 had Bluefin installed and went over 3000rpm more often but still being carful not to go too high for too long. At 1000 miles stopped monitoring rev counter.

Booted it for the first 20 miles then drove it more gently till about 500 then gave up being careful and enjoyed it! Thought I was jumping the gun by finning at 1000 miles but I see that others have done this earlier surprised.gif
